First of all, I want to apologize for not posting about this in ... well, ages. I don't really have any excuses, but the good news is that we are still planning on doing this magazine! We're now looking at a release date of October. This means we need to get cracking!The previous posts have details on what kind of people we need, and this one will have my long list of ideas for sections, specific articles, etc. Please, add things to it as you come up with ideas!Monthly sectionsreviews: books, documentaries, tv shows, language books, etctech: new gadgetsgear: essential travel equiptraveling 101travel fiction or some sort of "it happened to me" storyregional spotlights: short blurb on one city, give same info category for each issue (e.g. lodging, restaurant, entertainment)event calendar <--- this will be very hard to do if we have a worldwide focusculture: history or random facts about a certain placeeat: recipes, etcArticle IdeasFestivals (this would be an entire issue theme)hostelstentstransportation, hitchhikinglanguage barriersculture shockeating the most out of your trip (e.g. not going to mcdonalds)living locally, eating globallypolitics (how not to die or get arrested)safetybudgetingwhat to packtourist trapsdocumenting your travelsmoney exchangehot spotsoff the beaten path - nature type stuffstudying abroadcruisesmoving to another country, long-distance lovekeeping in touch - mail systems, telephones, calling cardsmusicroad tripsnightlifeholidaysplanning checklistshealthvolunteer travelSo let's hear your ideas!BTW, we'll be getting a forum to use for planning soon, but please feel free to use this LJ for the time being, so we can get down to business :)
Hmm... Trains, planes, automobiles! Which is better for what trip?Timezones. Jet lag. What to do if your wallet/credentials/passport disappears. How to shop in open-air markets. (Haggling, sampling food, that sort of thing.) Sound good? ^_^;
I'd love to do something about the Eastern European Christmas Markets (maybe for December), and I have pictures!!!Also, spotlighting the different embassies and what services they provide for their nationals abroad. This probably falls under transportation, but tips on buying transportation tickets in a place where you don't speak the language (OMG, such an ordeal if you're not prepared).
I forgot to mention: We're probably only going to publish quarterly (easier to switch to print if we want, will make for larger issues, hopefully better quality) but it will be for the coming months, if that makes sense. So October will be themed for winter/Christmas, January for spring, April for summer, July for fall. This seems logical to me because of the planning involved in most traveling. So your Christmas article would end up being in the October issue :)
